1 Ilya’s origin as a saint claims he was able to resurrect a boy from a terrible plow accident, thus saint ilya is speculated to be a healer. since i believe the orders are not as defined as modern ravkans believe, this puts him in the healer/tailor/heartrender family BUT

2 because ilya morozova made the 3 amplifiers, able to specifically be worn together, he was considered a prolific materialki. nobody yet knows saint ilya and ilya morozova are the same person, and ilya the materialki is considered a grisha historical figure BUT

3 neither of these can include the other unless ilya is some sort of grisha avatar, master of all orders. and as far as we know that isnt yet possible. baghra is the oldest character we know of and she has not, to our knowledge, even unlocked her sister power of sun summoning. SO

4 Consider this. First of all, both stories about ilya are true- he did make the amplifiers and imbue them with life, and he did resurrect a boy. But not because he was either materialki, or corporalki, or somehow both, but he did both of these things through merzost alone. Grisha powers have rules. The small science has rules. Every time we see somebody break those rules- creating life out of no where, or turning back death- it is not through being a grisha but through merzost. It’s how darkling and alina make nichevoya, its how ulla sacrifices the boys life to make fire underwater. Life and death magic- the risks and costs and the juggling of souls- its all merzost. Breaking the rules by having 3 amplifiers, thats merzost. Bringing a boy back to life despite healers not being able to do that, a true resurrection, that’s merzost. But how did Ilya become such a powerful merzost user?

5 Darkling tells Ulla he used to study magic in a conclave on kenst hjerte, and that he did this for years. There USED to be groups in the world devoted to the study of merzost. Darkling is a powerful merzost user because he’s had an immortal lifespan to study it. Let’s take leigh’s conservative estimate that darkling is about 300 years old. In 300 years hes mastered fracturing his soul to create an army of shadow kitties. Now if ilya has such incredible power hes able to resurrect a man and also create the amplifiers, he’s had to study a long time. Way longer than a normal lifespan, and longer than Darklings. Ilya must be immortal. But how can he be immortal?

6 Baghra claims her family was freaked out about her powers because she was the first darkling. This is unlikely, but even if shes not he very first, it’s highly uncommon. Her mother and sister especially freak out, but not much mention is given to Ilya’s thoughts on it. But why would Ilya be freaked out? If he’s immortal, he has to be a darkling too right? Maybe not. Maybe Baghra really is the first darkling theyve encountered, because ilya is a /sun summoner/. He doesnt have much understanding of baghras powers yet, and “dies” before he can figure it out. But Ilya is not dead. Ilya survived his martyring, went on to create the three amplifiers posing as a materialki, and has been kicking ever since, studying and perfecting his merzost.

6.5: also? do tell me how there are legends of the sun summoner come to save ravka or whatever IF THERE HAS NEVER BEEN ONE BEFORE. ALINA IS NOT THE FIRST. SHE CANT BE, OR NOBODY, NOT EVEN DARKLING, WOULD HAVE THOUGHT TO WAIT FOR HER. AND YOU KNOW WHERE THE OBSCURE LEGEND OF THE SUN SUMMONER CAME FROM? FROM THE SAME DUDE ALL OBSCURE GRISHA LEGENDS COME FROM.
